Why is it nearly every time I use a SmartMate... grab an edge to mate to a hole, it defaults to ANTI-ALIGNED. And CNTL+TAB don't flip it? Did a new "enhancement" slip by me?

Assuming you are using the Alt+Edge type SmartMate, use only the Tab key to flip alignment.

Ctrl+Tab activates the "select another part" dialogue box in the later versions of SW (2008 and up ?)

We're on...
SolidWorks 2010 SP3.0
Windows XP (automatic updates)

And using only the TAB key starts the "pick another application" dialog box, so also does ALT+TAB.

And now the CNTL+TAB is working correctly... So it's inconsisent!

Weird!

Try changing the keyboard. Maybe a sticky key?

Maybe also try resetting the customized keyboard selections.

Repair of SW and or Windows?

Sledgehammer or Shotgun?

In my experience you need only hold the ALT key until you have picked the face or edge to mate, after that just dragging the entity over it's intended target is enough. Then before releasing the left mouse button the TAB key will be enough to flip the mate that is being previewed.

I have to hold the Alt key depressed till the part has re-oriented to a face on another part. Once re-oriented the Alt key can be released and the part can be dragged to any face of any part.
