Using Catia V5R19;

Why do entities move even after using the smartpick function to constrain entities?

Any response will be greatly appreciated!

If you are using 'Snap', it's functionality is just to move components. If you are using 'Smart Move', you need to have 'Automatic Constraint Creation' checked in order to create the constraints. It's also possible that using these tools, that the constraints you create don't constrain all 6 DOF - right click on the component in the tree, select the component name > Component Degrees of Freedom. That should provide some insight to where your constraints are missing. Hope this helps!

Are you talking about the Sketcher smartpick ?

The smartpick will work no matter what but there is an option to create geometrical constraint ( coincidence, tangency...) if that option is turned off, no constraints are created even if you use smartpick.

I’m actually referring to the drafting workbench. If I need to show a bolt circle, the entities snap but they do hold so I need to provide the constraints after the sketch is done.

Same sort of button applies, it is called create detected constraints and is on the toolbars at the bottom of the screen

I think I finally figured out this one!

Entities won’t hold if you are working in views that have “centerlines and/or axis” displayed because with them visible, the constraint might not reach the desired entity but the centerline and/or axis. Constrain entities without the display of “centerlines and/or axis”.

1. Right-click on a view frame
2. Click Properties
3. Deselect / Uncheck “Hidden lines”, “Centerlines”, “Axis” & “Threads” to be sure.
4. Click OK
5. Create entities with constraints
6. Display desired features

Entities now should hold on the first attempt
