Should there be any regard to condensate on a snuff steam line? does it matter if the branches come off the side of the snuff steam header? Is water hammer a concern? In my particular case I am talking about snuff steam going to ductwork on an oil seed extraction plant.

Thanks,

Brian

yama21250,
Let's see if we can develop a little more information?

- What is the purpose of the Snuffing Steam?
- What is the Hazard?
- Is there something in the duct work that can catch fire?

Should there be any regard to condensate on a snuff steam line?
- Under normal operations there should not be any Steam or Condensate in the Snuffing Steam distribution lines.
- The Live Steam should only be in the Utility Steam Supply lines.
- There should be an Emergency Valve and some sort of a system that Manually or Automatically activates the release of the Utility Steam into the Snuffing Steam distribution branches.
- Therefore there would not be any Condensate in the Snuffing Steam Branches

Does it matter if the branches come off the side of the snuff steam header?
- Do you mean the Utility Steam Headers? If so then, No!

Is water hammer a concern?
- No! Do you currently have Water Hammer problems in your Utility Steam Headers?
- Ideally, the Snuffing Steam System would never be activated therefore there would never be Water Hammer in the Snuffing Steam Branches.

Sometimes its possible to do all the right things and still get bad results
