Soares Book on grounding 2

Can someone give me some comments on this book, especially between the 1st edition and the 8th edition? I want to buy the book, but read somewhere the last edition is not that good. Is it beter to look/search for the first edition, or can I buy the last edition?

Just remember that if you buy an older version, it will be base on an older NEC. The 8th edition is based on the 2002 NEC and I think there will be a new edition in 1006 based on the 2005 NEC.

I only have the 7th of the Soares book which is now in the 8th and find it useful. I cannot comment on whether earlier versions are better than the 8th edition, but the 7th edition is still available on the IAEI website at

http://www.iaei.org/products_books.htm

As Don pointed out though if you want to use it with current code it better to have the most recent edition. You may want to also consider that the 2005 NEC will be out soon so I am sure there will probably be another edition of the Soares book to follow.

Just a general comment about the Soares book. It is good reference for NEC related questions about grounding especially since a lot of electrical inspectors use it for guidance in applying the NEC. For more technical questions on grounding design and engineering though I find the IEEE Green and Emerald books a better reference.

I am not in a NEC-jurisdition area, so NEC does not really apply to me, but I just want a practical/technical reference to grounding.

Umrpwr, I'll keep the Green and Emerald Books in mind, is there a big difference between them and the Soares Book? I am also not in the IEEE-world, (in IEC) but some references can just be a good guide.
