Hello guys. Just want to solicit some advise from the expert people about the correct proportion of Caustic soda and chlorine to produce bleach (Sodium Hypochlorite). I am basing my experiemnt on the basic reaction of the main chemicals. As per computation, to produce 150 kg of bleach, I need to react 117(kg water, 27 kg Caustic Soda(30% concentration) and 6.8 kg Cl2. Hence the caustic solution is not holding the chlorine gas. In the beginnning the percetage of chlorine in the bleach is 4.5% the you can readily predict that the reaction is not successful because of the pH value which is 7.5 in which for good bleach it should have pH between 11 to 13. After overnight the chlorine content dropped down to almost zero. I appreciate any response from anybody. Thanks in advance.
