Soffit Protection less than 8ft for living areas 2

Hello everyone,

A bit unsure about this,
I know soffit 8in in width and above will require a pendent head below when used as protection for HSW head.

I have here a less than 8in soffit where i did not provide protection. Considered area below is already covered. Am I wrong here?

The 8" rule is for when the sprinkler is installed in the face of the soffit. In your example, you would reference the rules for obstructions against walls, i.e where the sprinkler throw is parallel to the obstruction - 8.10.7.1.4(b) and (c) in the 2016 edition.

I checked the table/diagram on 8.10.7.1.4 (b) and my spacing are good against the obstruction.
