Hello,

I am currently doing some scoping work to identify potential storage sites for a reservoir capable of holding 500,000m3 of water. The terrain in the area has a fairly consistent fall, however there are some humps and hollows around.

I am trying to optimize the reservoir geometry to balance the cut to engineering fill. I have a DT Model with elevations with an accuracy of 400mm. The embankment slope is also defined (1:2.5m inside and 1:3m outside)

Is there any basic software available which would allow me to do some very crude volume calculations and geometry layouts? I'm not looking for anything like 12D or AUTOCivil, but something much simpler (still capable of importing a DTM).

Any help or advise would be much appreciated.

Pen, paper and calculator will give you rough volumes.

Once a site is selected an earthworks model can then be created in 12d or AutoCad Civil 3D or similar.
