Engineers,

Does anyone knows where geotechnical companies going out of business post the softwares and tools they have for sale?.

I am not sure if there is place for that, i was wondering if there is one.

I would like to buy geotechnical softwares from these companies as will be cheaper (and probably older version as well).

Please let me know.

I'm not sure that's legal. I'm not a lawyer, but I think when you buy software, it's only licensed to the buyer and can't be transferred.

You could likely buy the computers that have the software installed; that's probably still legal, but there would be no manuals, no support, etc.

Both software and equipment can be sold. Most geotech firms going out of business are absorbed by larger firms at pennies on the dollar. I know of no particular repository for the equipment sales but they sometimes pop up on various auction sites.

Word of mouth, it's a small industry. When Coffey closed their Alberta operation some guy bought all the equipment and started up a new company. Ditto I know of companies who have decided to get out of the triaxial business and the sale went as follows: The lab manager at company A phones up his former protege who now works at company B and sees if they want to open up a triaxial business line; sale made.
