Hi guys,
where can I find, in the net, some simple example, I mean input file, to better understand how to model soil (sand and clay) and to work with it. The question seams to be stupid but I'm not used with this kind of problem as I'm mechanical eng. and the examples on abaqus doc. is not very usefull for the beginners on this matter. I'm studying some aspects of soil mechanics on books and I'd like to start with simple FE analyses (e.g. consolidation).

Thanks a lot

bye

What type of analysis you want to do with the soil?
can you give an example problem?

At first, I should start with easy consolidation analysis with different soil (both sandy and clayey soil) however at the end I'd like to analyse the forces that the soil may transfer to a fixed structure for example due to a differential settlement (basically 2D may be 3D). I hope it is clear. I know that the task is not easy (expecially for a mechanical eng.) and that's why I'd like to find some (many?) example in order to understand how Abaqus works with soil analyses.

Thanks.

check Section 9.1 Soils analyses in ABAQUS example problem manual.

If it is a pipe or beam structure, you can look at element psi34.

Hi Yoman228,
thanks for your advice. I've already used that element in the past now I'm moving towards more sophisticated model may be using ALE mesh and so on. Any advice (a web site or a book)?
Thanks

Is your structure is pipe or beam then yes, check
DNV-RP-F110.
Other then that, your may have to check papers that releated to your industury as I will be supprise that of any book will cover this details of work.
