If a new foundation expansion with loading will be rigidly attached to an existing foundation (existing sustained loads will not be unloaded), how are existing loads and soil bearing pressure considered?
If the foundation were analyzed as a completely new foundation, this would effectively distribute the existing load to the new portion of the foundation which seems unlikely. How do we consider these pre-existing pressures? If these can be ignored, how is that justified?
