Do any of you have the textbook, Soil Improvement by Preloading (Wiley Series in Geotechnical Engineering) by Stamatopoulos? Is is worth the read/purchasing?

I am looking for references on preloading and staged construction that include information on lab testing programs/procedures to determine strength gain of soft clay soils after consolidation.

No, don't have this one but I do have the one Dr. Jie Han; it is a reasonable book.

It's all about Su/P and making a new Pp.

So, you take your soil and test it (UU or DDS) at various confinements to learn about Su/P. You also run some consolidation tests to learn about OCR with depth. You can change the OCR with the surcharge.

I don't have the book you reference. The principals of using surcharges or preloads should be out there; however.

(I guess I should add in organic soils it's also about C-sub-alpha and driving out secondary compression in advance of adding the new load.)

You might look for articles on the subject by Charles Ladd.

Michigan DOT used to have this in their soils manual. Trythis fellow.
