Hi everyone!

I'm willing to know the porosity of two soil samples based the following data (pretty much all I have):

Soil is 43% clay, 21% silt, 30% sand and 5% gravel.
Bulk density is 3.28 g/cm³.
Dry density is 1.73 g/cm³ with 23.6% moisture content at 100% compaction.
Dry density is 1.65 g/cm³ with 21.8¢ moisture content at 95% compaction.

How can I do it? Is there anything missing to calculate the porosity?

all that's outstanding is the specific gravity of the soil grains.

What do you mean by outstanding, fattdad? This is soil from an iron mining area.

Thanks oldestguy, but isn't porosity expressed as an adimensional number between 0 and 1 (0% and 100%)?

I'm talking permeability, or hydraulic conductivity. That is what you need for design. What would you do with porosity anyhow?
