Hi,

I need some help guys as I have never modelled this kind of substructure in ETABS before.

At the moment I have in my model the raft foundation with the thickenings and also I have applied a spring area.

What I want to do next is to apply the different levels of soil layers beneath the raft as I have all the information such as soil parameters, depths etc.

Is it something that we can do on ETABS? I noticed that it has an option at Define/Spring Properties/Soil Profiles. I added at this option my soil profiles however I do not know how to apply these soil profiles to my model. Is it something that automatically takes ETABS during the analysis? Do I need to assign it somehow?

Many thanks

EDIT: JUST HAD A DISCUSSION WITH CIS AND I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT AT THE CURRENT VERSION OF ETABS IT CANNOT APPLY SOIL PROFILE PROPERTIES FOR A SPRING AREA BUT ONLY FOR A POINT SPRING.

I don't believe you can apply soil springs in the way you're thinking. The soil profile option is for single joints only I think (essentially a point spring).

EDIT: seems as though CSI beat me to the punch.
