Hey guys,

Any good sources to understand the soil structure interaction with bridge foundations (piles, shafts) , am a bridge engineer but I don't have a deep understanding for this issue and I am planning on changing that.

Thank you in advance

There are many good texts that deal with the subject. You likely will find many such texts recommended by those here. Keep in mind each of us may have had differing experiences and so there will be some bias. You might start with the work of the person who really is considered the founder of modern techniques, Karl Terzaghi. Also a student of his Ralph Peck has published at least two references. Doing a Google search for some of the topics you might be interested in such as foundation piles, footings foundations.

Thanks oldestguy, am also interested in the modelling process of soil structure interaction, and am not sure if these guys will discus such an issue , any references on that ?

One hint. Using the term "soil structure" may be confusing to those also well experienced with soil for agricultural purposes. That term is applied to the way soil Pericles will form small clumps called peds. Then the term pedologic process comes into play. For your investigation, perhaps word like soil strength or bearing capacity will do the job.

Soil structure interaction is the gestalt of geotechnical engineering. I mean what's the value of knowing strength if the soil must strain 15 percent to realize that maximum value? If the soil truly has to strain that much to mobilize all that strength, can the structure handle that degree of deformation - conversely, will the structure limit such deformation? If the structure limits the soil's ability to deform, then what strength may be appropriate to design for this structure?

Horizontal loads on piles, stresses on retaining walls, structural deformations, etc. These are the topics of soil structure interaction.
