Hi everyone,
I’ve been using SOL401 to analyze cohesive elements and I’ve been facing the same issue multiple times.. it’s the negative matrix diagonal for ~95% of nodes it's only rotation DOF and for ~5% it's translation and rotation.
I usually start with a shell model, add the cohesive elements and if I get negative matrix ratio I extrude the problematic shell elements into solid elements. It usually works but it makes the model run for much longer and I'd like to understand what's causing the issue to never have to deal with this later on. Unfortunately, I cannot share the model. I attached a representation of it.
dark blue: glue
orange: shell property 1
light blue: shell property 2
I even tried to convert the solid cohesive elements into solid but same issue.. With glue as solid elements, the model runs with SOL106 but not SOL401.
Have you guys ever dealt with this and how do you solve it?
Cheers
