Solar power info/references

Hi,
I would like to read up and learn about solar power generation. My back ground is in mechanical engineering (automotive), but I would like to expand my skill set to the alternative energy technology sector starting with solar power.

Any good advise on where to start, any book recommendations?

Sounds like you need to start with the Wikipedia article:

since you don't even distinguish between solar electrical power and solar thermal power, which are quite different.

If you are interested in photovoltaic systems, there is very good information at the New Mexico State University site. Google "Southwest Technology Development Institute".
