Is there a way to SOLDRAW an X-Ref'ed model without binding it into the target drawing?

Dear cfee,

Unfortunately there is no way to soldraw the external references.
Maybe you can show what you rerquire using the facilities to on or off layers in viewports.

To FH: Yeah, that's what I figured. I'm comfortable with models in my PS Viewports, but every boss I ever worked for has this silly notion that a shop drawing should act like (be editable like) a shop drawing. The prevailing policy in my discipline is that even with drawings that include 3D models, extracted 2D views (including ISO's) need to be presented in shop drawings and subsequently editable according to standards like ASME Y14.5, & D.R.M., etc. I guess I was hoping for an approach that would allow me to effectively model my design using a combination of conventional ACAD 3D, X-Ref'ing for file management and size & access issues, and "Solprof"ing extracted views, in a single well coordinated design. This is repeatedly the complaint against ACAD in the current design world dominated by low-end modelers that are stealing seat-share from ACAD, even discounting the too-little/too late Inventor.
Thanks again,
C.F.
