Solidworks 2003, seems does not like me! Help!

After a "complicated" rendering(i'm cheating, actually, a tooth brush), my lovely Solidworks was crashed, than guess what? Solidworks can not show any more, even after i remove the Solidworks and reinstalled it.

When i click Solidworks button, Solidworks poped up a dialog and showes:

Error signature
AppName: sldworks.exe AppVer: 11.10.0.201 ModName: mfc42u.dll
ModVer: 6.0.8665.0 Offset: 00017103

.........


What is that?!

Please help!!!

Generally when you see this error its when a User has an “old version of the mfc42.dll file (caused when another app is installed that overwrites the dll. This can also be caused by Anti-virus software running while SolidWorks is installed (A/V software prevents Solidworks installer from overwriting the .dll)

Seeing as you say that the app was running prior to the crash, I am going to assume that somehow your mfc43.dll was corrupted in the process.

Try following the "Clean reinstall process" as explained in the FAQ's in this forum. (faq559-488) Make sure that you have any antivirus software disabled (especially those that have script blockers.)

Give that a try and let me know how that goes.

Thank you for your advice. i am sorry i have just now replied to you because i have been working on something else. After i have reviewed your advice i did three things; first of all i reinstalled the system, second i downloaded and installed service pack1, and third i downloaded and installed newest display driver. After that, solidworks has been working smoothly for a few days already. But i am still afraid that the system will crash, but so far so good. I appreciate your help, thanks to your help i can now understand the problems and start fixing it. without your help i could of very easily given up Solidworks all together

You can expect the system to crash eventually. There isn't a system out there that doesn't. So to make sure you don't lose your work set up your backup.

Make a new Folder on your Root of C: (EX: C:\Backup) and in SW, setup the location to that folder. Turn your Changes down to like 5 when setting up the Backup options in SW. The Changes doesn't mean when you actually make 5 changes to the model. It means when you 5 rebuilds.

In 2004, SP2.1, it does not seem to matter what you set the number of changes to as far as auto-recovery. It does not apply to rebuilds either. First I can start a part and save it. If I have my number set to 3 as far as backup changes, after doing three things and hitting save with no rebuilds, it does create a backup in the specified directory. If fact, I can do one change and hit save and it'll update the backup even though its set for every three changes.

I have heard that in training as far as rebuilds but I do not think this is right or we have our system set different than yours

I don't know what your doing but I just tested your response and it doesn't work that away here. And there are no settings or system options that would make it behave in that way.

1) I opened a new part and saved the file. = No Backup
2) I extruded a boss = No Backup
3) I cut a ole in the boss = No Backup
4) I extruded a feature off the boss = No Backup
5) Saved the file = No Backup
6) Rebuilt the file 3 times either with a ctrl-Q or the rebuild icon = 1 Backed up file.

If you have the setting "number of backup copies per document set to 1 - It will only make one backup of that file, at one time.

What don't you think is right? They way it's done, or the way you think it should be done?

It's been like this since day one and hasen't changed since I've been using SW and that's been awhile. Unless someone is aware of something else? Anyone want to nibble on this?

Scott,

I was referring to changes in the model as opposed to rebuilds for the number of changes for a backup. Three of us sat here yesterday and would make one or two changes (not even the three which was the default for backups) and hit save. The backup directory would update and a new time would appear for the backup. It doesn't work just hitting rebuilds, for whatever reason. Did you hit F5 to refresh your directory?
