Joseph,
We also use SolidWorks & PDM/Works, which has saved us $1000’s. How does your group handle two people working on the same assembly at the same time? I have ownership of an assembly, which I have about 53 hours left to work. I also take ownership of each part I change. Someone else at the same time started working on the same assembly with different changes. In a couple of weeks we will be merging the changes together. I told him that he should not have even started making changes without first taking ownership. Or he should have come to me with the changes he wanted, and I would have put them into the assembly. My boss what’s the software to merge the changes.

The only way I ever used is to have a server storing all your files. Then on each people's computer, you create a portfolio linked to your working directory on the server. This automatically makes the server check for latest versions of the files when you open/save them.

Hello Bradley,

Please log into Subscription and look at the PDM FAQ.

When checking out an assembly that has references, you may only wish to retrieve a copy of the references and not take ownership of them. Or you can release ownership later on.

Cheers,

Joseph
