Is there anyone looking for some side work to write a program for use in Solidworks DWG editor?

We are looking to automate some of our processes and looking for some programming help. We make a product that comes on a string and needs to be laid out at different spacing’s and lengths depending on the customer’s enclosure. We currently have a spread sheet that gives our manual layout person the guidelines. If we could bring the product size into DWG editor is there any way to automate the locations of our products?

I am wondering if this might be an application for DriveWorks but things are only really only done in 2D. We are more concerned with the spacing between product in a line and then from line to line.

Do you know that DWGeditor has been replaced by DraftSight?

Can you not create the automation in SW and output to whatever 2D format is needed

CorBlimeyLimey,

I did not realize it had been replaced. We are running 2011 but almost never open the 2D stuff outside of solidowks.

Our customer’s enclosures are usually pretty free form and the work is currently done manually using Adobe Illustrator. We are thinking of changing over to the 2D package for SW since we have extra licenses for that and I am under the impression it could also be controlled using VB similar to Solidworks.

DraftSight is free, but if you need tech support or API ability, I believe a paid subscription is required.

We have a a subscription license for SW Pro and Standard. Our reseller seems hesitant to give us any help on the programming so we are starting to look elsewhere. This would be a paid job.

The description of the product is very sketchy. Could you post some images or models (or non-proprietary lookalikes) of the requirements?

There are many people in the San Antonia area. I suggest you start a thread at asking for contract assistance. You are able to post an email address there, but site management here does not want emails posted.

If you do post in the SolidWorks forum, please post a link here so that others here can respond.

We supply lighting products for the signage industry, mostly channel letters and cabinet signs. Our products can go into everything from the small signs inside a mall to the large signs out in front of a strip mall.
