SolidWorks Explorer Question 1

I hate to use this forum for questions, I know I can find the answer to

...but I can't find it.

If you rename your parts in SolidWorks Explorer, is there a setting somewhere that tells your parts to retain their old name in existing assemblies?

Everything works fine, like I'm accustomed to - the new name bleeds through to my existing drawings, but in the assembly tree in which these parts are subcomponents, they retain their old name.

It's just a display problem because when I 'open' the 'old part' a new window opens up with the 'correct' re-named name.

Out of curiosity, what happens if you ctrl+q? Suppress the part then unsuppress? Just throwing some ideas out there.

Yeah - I tried that exactly - maybe, this isn't supposed to happen - I thought it was a setting I neglected to check.

**The answer - as far as I can tell - correct me if I'm wrong - 'Make sure the 'Component Properties'\'Component Name' - in the Upper/LeftHand Corner of the tabbed box says the name you want displayed in the component tree.

I assume you are renaming each part individually using the "Rename" tool in explorer... if so do you have the "Update where used" selected? Because when I do that and I have several assemblies referencing that file I can select which ones I want to update and which ones I don't. If you select one at all, then the new named file is its own part and the original part and its name will remain. Basically you will have 2 files now.
