When I right clicked in Windows Explorer, there used to be a SolidWorks menu, with copy and rename features. Now, it is gone. We have recently upgraded from Windows[ ]XP to Windows[ ]7, I think. Otherwise, I am not sure what we might have done.

This was a useful feature. Is there any way I can get it back?

Does your Windows Explorer have Copy & Rename under the Organize button? Otherwise, I think you'll have to do a regedit.

When I right click in the file window on Windows Explorer, there are all sorts of options to launch applications and to copy and paste. There was a SolidWorks menu that provided an extremely useful SolidWorks rename, that corrected all the parametrically linked files. The SaveAs feature inside SolidWorks is awkward to use and unreliable. Our files are randomly named, so it is difficult to pick out the parametric links.

I want to create new drawings and models by renaming existing ones that have in-context features. Our CAD management makes this difficult.

I am trying to remember the last time I used the feature. It may have been prior to our OS[ ]upgrade. The new Windows Explorer looks simplified compared to the old one.

When you did the OS upgrade did you also reinstall solidworks? I am wondering if you do a repair install of Solidworks will it come back.

What I have found is that if you install a new release as a new install then remove an older release it removes something that causes this to occur. I found this in the KB

Question:
After installing SolidWorks 2013, why is the SolidWorks menu (Pack and Go, Replace, Rename) not visible when right mouse button clicking on SolidWorks documents in Windows® Explorer?

Answer:
It is possible that the file association of the SolidWorks files has changed to SolidWorks 2013 (sldworks.exe of SolidWorks 2013).
Since SolidWorks 2013 SP0 onwards a new application is launched that is a SolidWorks launcher. Please refer to S-060464 for more information.

To correct the behavior change the file association of the SolidWorks file to 'SolidWorks Launcher'. To do so:
1) Open SolidWorks > go to Tools > Options > System options > File Explorer > click ‘Restore File Associations’ > ok > reconfirm behavior
2) If the point does not help then perform a similar operation manually; Go to the Control panel > Default Programs > Set Associations > .sldprt > Change program > select 'SolidWorks Launcher'. Perform same operation for .sldasm and .slddrw.

Hope that helps,

SBaugh,

Thank you. Actually, it looks like I was not actually clicking on The SolidWorks files. When I select one, the menu comes up. Problem between keyboard and office chair. :(
