When I upgraded to SW2008 SP1.0 none of the icons associated with solidworks files show up in windows folders. They show up when I go into tools->folder options->file types and try to change icon, but windows doesn't seem to remember that setting. I'm using dwg editor 2008 too and having no problems with dwg or dxf files. does anyone know how i can fix this?

Are you getting pictures of your parts instead of a generic icon for parts/assemblies and drawings?

Go here to change:
Tools > Options > System Options > General, mid way down is a check box 'Show thumbnail graphics in Windows Explorer' uncheck this.

thanks anna for the reply but, i'm not getting thumbnail previews or icons. i'm just getting the generic icon that windows uses as a default for files it doesn't recognize.

You could try going into Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/File Types, and delete out the association (rather than just trying to fix it). Once out of that, then double-click the icon from Windows Explorer and when it asks you which program to open it with make sure to check the box that says Always open these file type with this program (or whatever it says).

thanks but that didn't work either. i think a reinstall is the only thing that going to work.
