Solidworks Journal File Location

Hi,

Anyone can help me set SW so that it saves the journal file swxJRNL.swj in the same folder as the open file?

In Tools / Options / File Locations / SW Journal File you can only set s specified folder, I guess.
Note: I am using SW2004 under Win2000.

Why do you want to do that?

One way is to always change the options settings with the actual location of the file.

Another way (I don't know if this works in SW2004) is leaving the options settings blank and start SW doble cliking the file in W2K explorer.

Those are not very partical procedures but, again, why do you want to create the journal file in the file folder?

The only way to get it to open in the same folder as the file is to do like macPT says. Double click it from Windows Explorer, but the Tools / Options / File Locations / SW Journal File - has to be empty.

Thanks guys,
The reason I thought this may work better for me was to always separate the commands for a specific working session, and of the specific part I work on . Does it make sense?

Since there is one journal file for a session it will not change as you move from one directory to another. The default will be the startup directory unless you set it to be someplace particular. If you want to see the journal file easily then set the default to the desktop.

If that's the case then, set a path to the desktop. Under Tools / Options / File Locations / SW Journal File

If you have SW Closed, then use Windows Explorer to find the file and double click the file. From there the journal file will be created. If you open up another file the journal file is still located in the first place where the file exists at.

As discussed before in other threds, the journal file as no pratical utility, unless you want to check some particular API instructions of SW, to help you writing some macros.

I suggest that you select one folder to save journal files, so you can control it's creation. Otherwise you will sun have your disk with journal files everywhere.
