I am very new to Solidworks Macros and haven't touched Excel macros at all. The original post referenced here touches on a few functions I would also find really useful. Can anyone help get me going in the right direction to get the functionality I am trying to obtain.

1.) Create a drawing with 3 standard views from the active part (Yes we place a BOM on our part drawings as well) / assembly file - This macro is taken care of
2.) An extension to the above Macro would be to also place a BOM on the drawing sheet. I tried recording a macro for this code but no useful code was generated.
3.) For each project we export the main GA BOM from Solidworks to excel and then do some formatting in Excel. It would be amazing if I could automatically format the data in Excel. (This macro or process could be separate and operate independently from the first two listed above.)

Thank you

newby81,

What I have done in the past is insert an Excel BOM into SolidWorks, and then copy and paste it out into an Excel template. With a good template, you should not have to format anything.

The newer SolidWorks BOM is superior to the Excel BOM. You can export it into several formats, including Excel. I don't have access to SolidWorks at the moment, so I don't know what else it exports to. BOMs in Excel format are powerful tools. Why not write a macro for Excel, instead of SolidWorks?
