Hello all,
I would like everyone to start up there web browsers and login to the SolidWorks Customer Support website to write an Enhancement request. This request deals with SolidWorks drawing accuracy (or lack of). I am having a huge problem with accurate drawing representation of complex curves in SolidWorks drawings.
Imagine an forming tool part with a rake angle of 15 degrees. The form tool part is generated from an assembly from the "finished" part. The process is not complicated but the "finished" part is a revoltion with a sketch containing arcs and lines typically. In the assembly, the "finished" part is subtracted from the form tool part and the resultant form tool part edges are then used in a sweep to remove all the material from the forming tool. The next step is to cut the form tool part with a reference plane at 15 degrees at a certain location. Voila, instant parametric form tools from the finished part.
Well, when you do all that, you would expect the detail drawings edges to be accurate to the smooth form tool part. Well, the resultant edges are splines.
In the SolidWorks drawing you will get LARGE FACET representation of a smooth spline model edges. Arrrgggg!
Now you can't do much with it as far as CAM goes... forget WireEDM from a DXF file because the SolidWorks drawing las large facet representation...even with the accuracy option set to maximum.
The SPR#63734 is issued to improve the drawing accuracy but I need more of a push to get it fixed completely in SW 2003, not 2004. Please help.
Thank you,
Tim Fischer
