Solidworks Rendering Metal Mesh

I am trying to render a metal mesh with dimples using Solidworks 2004.

The mesh patterns are at 45degrees.

The flat surface of the mesh renders fine, but I just can't get the mesh to render like it is concave into the dimple.

I am using iron mesh for material. I've tried every setting. Some setting won't allow me to adjust the angle. The setting where I can change the angle the grid comes out all distorted. Using ZY planar allows me to angle it but it looks flat not concave.

Any advice?

Thanks

Is your "dimple" modelled or are you relying on the mesh material you applied to a flat surface?

If you have a single, concave dimple, you can select the concave surface and apply the material. If you have a disconnect between your flat and concave surface, orient your part in such a way that the material can be applied evenly from your point of view. Reapply the material according to your view and that should take care of it.

If you only have a flat surface and you want more "dimension" from the rendering, you will be limited by the effect of the bitmap texture.

Yes, the concave dimples are modeled into the flat surface. I am applying the material in separate steps once for the dimple once for the flat surface. It's not just one dimple but a pattern of them on the surface.

On the flat surfaces I am setting the iron mesh zy planar orientation at 45 degrees. Using the same setting on the concave surface produces a flat looking pattern. I tried using spherical orientation, but I loose the ability to angle the pattern.
