I use UG NX/3 software but deal with my another engineering firm that uses solidworks. My counterpart does not have many solidworks hours, and thus does not fully understand his software.

I am trying to send him a STP file complete with both parasolids and points. I have tried to explain that he might have to adjust the import settings to allow points (in UG it is accomplished by selecting wireframe). What settings should I suggest that he change?

I believe he may need to ensure that the box is checked for "Free Point/Curve Entities". The import settings are available in the "Open..." dialog. He should go to File->Open, browse to the location of the file, change the file type filter to "STEP AP203/214", and then hit the "Options..." button. In the "General" category is the box for "Free Point/Curve Entities."
