Solidworks-UG conflict? 1

Is there a problem with running UG and Solidworks on the same machine simutaneously. My workstation is the server for UG Licenses and the floating license on SW also. If I reboot and run either program there is not a problem, if I run one program, close it, and then run the other, my machine will bog down real slow. Is this a known problem?

Thanks for any help
Allen

Perhaps you should have a machine that is not a dedicated server as a workstation?

AllenR,

Just to let you know, I can run Pro/E, SWx, and MasterCAM without any resource conflicts or system failures. I don't think being the license server would cause problems at least it doesn't with flexlm which is Pro/E's license server software. This might be a system configuration issue.

Perhaps the two programs are fighting over mutual parasolid kernel elements.

I have SW and three versions of UG running on my machine. It is not used as the license server, and I have had no problems (as of yet).

ewh, how does UG compare to Solidworks in your opinion? Which did you start out on?

Jason,
I started out on UG about 15 years ago. The company I work for designs and manufactures composite parts for aerospace, and we have 10 seats of SW vs 2 of UG. UG was brought in to handle some of the complex surfacing and because some of our largest customers use it exclusively. I must admit that I don't use SW very extensively, since it is much quicker for me to use UG. Having said that, I do think that SW is a very good and powerful program for the money. Except for some of the advanced surfacing, associativity and manufacturing capabilities of UG, I think that SW comes out ahead.
