Dear colleagues,

For a project that will be facing 5 stories hospital having several critical wards including baby's intensive care unit (at first 2 levels)

It is big project with nearest boundary is 20 meters, with direct exposure of 100 meters along that boundary.

I have my concerns of noisy construction activities impact on the hospital such as Jack hammers, Pilling (more than 500 bearing piles), sheet piling for dewatering.

The hospital facade under considration contains 40% as double glazed windows.

Have you dealt with such case?
What would be the most efficient noise barrier?

Can you hang some sort of a sound absorbing screening an few feet away from the hospital exterior window wall. Hang it off the hospital wall or at least brace it to that wall? Sometimes vibratory action is actually transmitted to adjacent buildings through the soil, and is as annoying as the noise. You may consider scheduling of the noisy, high vibration, work with the question in mind... is much more noise (many activities at once) over a shorter period of time, less or more disruptive than a bit less noise over a longer period of time? Ask your foundation contractor about the quietest way to do the various activities. I believe that some of the newer pile driving methods and equipment are quieter than some of the older methods. Meetings with the hospital about the upcoming work and consulting with someone who knows this construction area might be wise, get them on board, don’t surprise them.
