Something Accessing my Outlook Mailbox 1

I am running SolidWorks for mechanical CAD, and SmarTeam for PDM. We are running the SolidWorks integration. Sometimes, when I launch SolidWorks, I get a message that something is accessing my Outlook mailbox. There is no way some unknown, unauthorized process is getting at my Outlook mailbox.

This typically happens after I crash SolidWorks and/or SmarTeam. I have done virus scans, and my virus software is up to date.

Has anyone else out there seen this?

It is your SolidWorks performance email. It sends info to SW's central scrutinizer when something crashes. It can be enabled/disabled under "Tools --> Options --> System Options --> General"

If you use Eudora (free download) instead of Outlook you will be able to see what is being sent and stop it if you don't want it going out.

A superior email client, in my opinion, since you can filter spam directly into any folder you want--including the trash--with a great deal of control.

In the past, SolidWorks would send out these emails whether you had them activated in your options or not--sneaky.

Tick,

Thank you very much. It is disabled now. This is a great forum!

Theophilus,

I hate Microsoft Outlook, but running it is company policy. To keep SolidWorks out of it would require me to uninstall Outlook, I would think.

I am starting to wonder about alternate Windows mail clients. I run Sylpheed under Linux at home, I love it, and there is a Windows port. It is not stable yet, and SolidWorks crash FAQs recommend not messing with the OS. Oh well.

Thanks.

When installing SW, it asks you if you want to send SW a performance email. The option is available in the Tools\Options as Tick has pointed out...but for future installs pay attention to the menus that come up.\, because it will ask you every time you install a new version of SW or any version for that matter.
