Sour gas valve sources 1

We have a need for one 1 ¼” ball valve and possibly 2 each of a 3” ball valve or gate valve that have metal seats and meets NACE MR0175 SPECIFICATION FOR SOUR GAS SERVICE.
Stainless steel construction, and 500 psi operating pressure are other requirements.

There are many companies that can provide the product you need. However, if you are not already aware of it, the NACE specification you reference was revised last year, and the scope changed significantly. For the sake of your wallet, please be certain that you really need to have the materials comply with the current MR0175 edition.

There has been a lot of confusion on this subject and to simplify, if your product is on the "well side", and there is chlorides in the fluid, then the current edition of 0175 is applicable. You will need to either review the specification and tell the manufacturer the materials they are to use in the valve. Or, tell the manufacturer the fluid details such as partial pressures, etc., so they can select appropriate materials.

If the product is on the "plant side", and there are no chlorides, then the new NACE spec. MR0103 applies. Now the confusing part. MR0103 is essentially the same as the 2001 edition of MR0175, and you do not need to tell the manufacturer anything other than simply, "the materials need to comply with MR0103."

These valves are for use on a gasifier. If you could recommend a couple of vendors that might stock these, or have short a delivery time, we would appreciate the help. We a located in Washington State, and have not had much success locating a 1 ¼” valve with less than a 10 week delivery.

Can you modify line size and valve to 1-1/2"? This may help you to find the material.

Last Thursday my customer decided that the bore of the system should be 1 3/8, the id of the pipe it connects to. But before we order anything we need plant approval, and that won’t happen until the first week of May.
Between now and then I need to find a couple of more suppliers.

Stainless steel trim valves for sour service should be used below 60C as per NACE MR0175. If the temp. of sour gas is working under 85C, what material should be used? Hostelloy or equivalent? I mean, coating on trim only?

60 deg C unless the material has been qualified to go to a higher temperature. That's the beauty of ISO 15156 - anything is possible so long as it is proven. Don't take the limits as cast in tablets of stone.

It is a little over a year later and the plant finally provided a valve specification and vendor. They require a carbon steel body and a 316 SS ball.
