Hi,
I have a static face seal design based on chart 4.2 in the Parker handbook. Now suppose that the internal pressure wants to separate my metal to metal contact of the mating faces. A backup ring on the outside of the o-ring could be advantageous (see attached image). Do you know anybody that makes face seal backup rings for the standard Parker catalog o-rings?

Thanks

Static face seal doesn't need a backup ring. The mated faces are clamped together with zero gap therefore extrusion of the seal is avoided. To avoid seal stretch the outer gland diameter should be equal or slightly smaller than the o-ring outer diameter.

WHat type of pressures are you dealing with? Most of these have a zero gap, but also load up under pressure which works in your favor since it forces the gap closed.
