I work on power boilers and HRSGs.
Whenever we have a tube failure, I document the failure with the Tube Number, Boiler wall, and Elevation.
My understanding is that left/right is determined by standing inside the boiler, looking towards the stack. In this position, you're looking at the rear wall. Boiler-Front wall is behind you, and Boiler-Left and Boiler-Right are your left and your right.
Waterwall tubes are counted left to right and Front to Back.
Inside a pressure vessel (i.e. a Deareator/steam drum) we name welds sequentially from South to North and West to East.
Does anyone know of a source for this naming convention?
