If I had a choice, I'd get the Space Pilot. It has more functionality. Works great.

I have both. I use the navigator for the laptop being small and portable. The space pilot is larger and has many more functions. It is fully programmable, but I have never bothered to do so. Still on balance the expense is justified for prolonged use because the apron area features a wrist support which is ergonomically far superior. The central knob is for all intents and purposes identical in both.

Older drivers for the space pilot supported Microsoft Excel, while it appears that the newer drivers that support both the pilot and navigator do not. Maybe logitech and Microsoft have fallen out of love.

John,

I bought a navigator because it is a fair bit cheaper than the traveler. Is there any real difference?

Besides the cool leather travel case?

Well, the SpaceTraveler is smaller and it does weight a lot less. It also has 8 programable buttons instead of only 2 as with the SpaceNavigator, but you are correct, you could buy 3 SpaceNavigators (and have change left over) for the price of just ONE SpaceTraveler.
