In the configuration for the spaceball you should be able to store multiple configuration profiles. i.e. drawing, part, assy mode. There should a 3DxWare icon in your task bar area. You'll have to make the switch manually but I believe you should be able to do it.
The newer SpacePilot automatically switches between configurations by application, don't know about by module. I guess I will have to hook it up and play with configurations.
