Hi guys.
We just upgraded to SWX2011-64 bit from SWX2010-64 bit
and I lost my buttons on spaceball 5000 usb. When I try to re-map any button, the pull-down list is empty...
We are running Windows XP-64 and it worked fine up until Solidworks 2011 got installed.
Has anyone experienced this and found a solution by any chance?
Most of our designers use space explorer and I prefer to use the old style, since I find button layout on the old ones to be a lot better. And it is a lot better ergonomically.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.

Eddie

The buttons no longer work with SolidWorks 2011. There is no work around. I beleive 3DConnexion is no longer providing driver updates for the 5000 and older series spaceballs.

Sorry not what you want to hear.....

Not true, Anna.
I re-installed the driver (version 3.6.11) and it works. Must have been some glitch...

Thank you for response, anyway.

Well that is good to hear. People have not been having luck with their older spaceballs and the button mapping.

I know I have a several serial spaceballs that are now paperweights.

To be able to use an old serial spaceball 4000FLX you must run Windows XP-32 bit...
5000 is a USB model and works with Windows XP 64-bit and Solidworks 20xx-64 bit versions using older drivers.
I wish 3Dconnexion would support the style I have for a bit longer. I'm not at all impressed with their newer products.

efritz - how did you install the driver? Custom, or full version? We have 4 spaceball 5000's here on Win7 64bit and SW2011, with no button function. It would be great to get another year out of them. I brought in my personal SpaceExplorer from home.

Why not just upgrade to a Pilot or Pilot Pro.
I've been using a Pro since they came out and I love it.
Kinda have a few connections with them, wrote an article for them.

If first you do succeed...try something harder.

gwubs:
3D connexion doesn't support 5000 anymore.
You can only use it under Windows XP (32 and 64 bit)
and 4000FLX (or 5000 serial) would only work with Windows XP 32-bit...
There is no work around this.
The driver I use is 3.6.11 which is quite old.

CADShark:
I find button sizes and locations the most conveniently placed for me on the Spaceball 5000. Layout of the Pilot is not much different from Space explorer. I don't mind using the puck instead of the ball - the buttons is what I don't like.

Why not just upgrade to a Pilot or Pilot Pro..
We have 25 5000 USB, (and also 25 later models) not too happy that 3DConnexion is not supporting our Spaceballs.

I just loaded 2011 SP3.0 with OS Vista x64. I tried efritz's solution and re-installed the driver (version 3.6.11) and it works!!! Thanks Eddie
