Is there any tricks in gearing that would allow the same sort of gear ratio as a spanish burton pulley system(a special arrangement of three pulleys that can generate more purchase(5:1)that would ordinarily be possible with three single pulleys)?

I believe that what you are alluding to is actually a Double Spanish Burton, of which there are two possible versions, one having three single blocks, and one having two single blocks and one double block. But it is not quite clear, at least to me, whether you want to create gearing to produce linear-to-linear motion (exactly as in the Spanish Burton) or whether you want rotary to rotary motion, rotary to linear motion, or linear to rotary motion. All the alternatives involving linear motion and achieved purely with gears would presumably incorporate at least one rack and pinion, but perhaps you envision something involving chains and sprockets?
