We've been trying to purchase 303 stainless steel round bars in sizes ranging from 1/4" dia. to 6" dia. per ASTM A582 and the requirement "60,000 min yield." For the smaller sizes, material is readily available that meets this min. yield (1-1/4" dia. and smaller). We're not having much luck finding larger bars. I can't find any info. on min. yield requirements in ASTM A582 or A484.

My questions:
- Is there an ASTM spec. for 303 that designates min. yield strength requirements for specific size ranges?
- Is there a name-brand 303 that claims to meet 60 ksi min yield?
- Does anyone know of a distributor in the NJ/SouthEastPA area that specializes in meeting these types of unusual requirements?

Thanks!

I am not an expert in this area at all, but I believe the reason you are finding plenty of smaller diameter round bar is because the only way 303 is going to hit that yield strength is through cold working.

I don't know the maximum diameter encompassed there, but I'd wager it's somewhere near the limit of the largest ones you found already--and 6" seems ridiculous to me, but perhaps someone more knowledgeable about this subject can be specific.

I just need to make a comment.
303 is not a structural material.
It is not allowed in the ASME B&PV Code. It has inferior corrosion resistance, poor fatigue properties, and unpredictable toughness.
The thought of using 303 at elevated strength gives me pause, I hope that I am never depending on this equipment.
