Hello everyone

I'm designing a structures with a special moment frames system. One of the frames is coinciding on a basement wall (please see attachment), the question is:

Should I detail de basement wall for a base shear, including the omega overstrength factor of the special moment frame? I think it would be difficult for the wall to achieve some non linear behaviour, since its height/lenght ratio is too small.

Any idea will be appreciated

Thank's in advance

Regards

I agree completely.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.
