Special moment resisting frame system

What differs between a special moment resisting frame and an ordinary beam column joints is that the first must have rigid joints "beam column connection". My question is how to achieve that ? Does anyone can give all the requirements to achieve it ?

A SMF has a number of different requirements not just a "rigid joint". You should start reading NEHRP Seismic Design Technical Brief No. 2 along with AISC 341-10 and AISC 358-10
