I am designing a masonry building in SDC D utilizing special reinforced shear walls. My shear walls are relativly long (50' in some instances)and I've run calcs and find that I dont even need horizontal grouting/rebar for shear because i am so long; however ASCE/MSJC minimums are grouted horizontal w/ #4 at 24" min for SDC D. But, I don't know that I have ever seen partially shear walls in SDC D and I don't like the feel of partially grouted shear walls.
What would you typically expect? Fully grouted shear walls? Building is simple, rectangle (50'X165'), flexible diaphragm, 8" CMU running bond, f'm=1500, fy=60ksi, 15' tall walls, low slope roof, Sds=0.58.
I see in MSJC for stack bond they require solid grout in SDC D, but can find no rqmnt for running bond (my case).
thx
