Hi Everyone, hoping for some advise.

I just got a new workstation Dell t3400 with nvidia quadro fx3700.

I'm currently working with one solid, but with a lot of faces (around 5300) and the work station is just dragging along. I try and offset some faces etc. and it take minutes for UG to tell me I can do it...or if I change something in the back in history it takes forever to rebuild.

Currently we're running windows xp 32 bit and I have 4gb ram running UG6

What I'm wondering is if switching to Vista and running/installing the 64 bit version of UG...would that help me out significantly?

I've attached as an image my UG "about" properties.

Not sure about a fair comparison, but running NX6 x64 on Windows XP 64-bit, with an Nvidia QuadroFX 1700 and 8GB RAM is really fast... :)

wadec,

There are the odd glitches and trade offs with 64 as opposed to the older and perhaps more popular 32bit systems. Mainly with other apps that you may like to run on your systems, but the occasional graphics driver hastles have hit users running older or multiple verisons of NX for different customers.

With XP/32 you're not getting the full benefit of your 4Gb memory, but can eke out a tad more by deploying the /3GB switch. Can I leave you to google or search this forum for the instructions how to do that, as they're easily found.

The short answer is that if I were running NX5 and/or NX6 alone I'd definitely go 64bit with 8Gb or RAM.

Best Regards
