Speed Tile Floors

Does anyone have experience with speed tile floors, mostly constructed at the turn of the century. We are working on renovating a buildign for a school, the underside of the floor is speed tile. There is a 2" topping with embedded nailers. There are some concerns as 1 1/2" of floor leveler needs to be added, not to mention its been vacant for well over a decade. I heard that the construction also goes by book tile.

The articles give some load tables and construction details that might be helpful. The floors are called Tile Arch Floors, but they can be a "flat" arch too.

Perhaps your local university engineering library would have a copy of the book.

Thanks for the information, I did a search on amazon.com and got a hit for that book only difference is it came out in 1920. I'm going to get a copy of it, if I can't use it for this job, I'm sure it will be useful.

The book is actually a two volumn set and well worth the price if you do any amount of work in older buildings. My 1926 set is the 2nd Edition, so the one you found must be 1st Edition.

Another source is "Kidder-Parker Architects and Builders Handbook". I have 18th edition, which discusses arched floors on pages 950-964.
