vsimonis requested info re this thread. As a retired Corporate Radiation Safety Officer for a major radioactive waste disposal facility, I hope these comments will help. Nuclear facilities in the US do send their spent resins to disposal. To my knowledge, they are shipped as soon as possible. The facility I worked for placed a radioactive dose rate limit of 80 mr/hr at contact on the container. That limit was set to protect workers in the portion of the facility who worked on the blending/solidification process prior to disposal.
