I had issues using the spherical washers during assembly of the control valve bonnet to the steam turbine casing. Instead of leveling the force of the cap nut to bonnet, it created a bending force and significantly bent the stud over. I had to manufacture new standard washers and remove the spherical washers to complete the assmebly.
Does anyone know why the spherical washers did not work in this application? I used a HyTorq to assist in the assembly and this method will put a bending force on the stud/washer. I didn't have time to check to see if standard slugging method gave different results.
Thanks
