Would like advice on minimum recommended backlash for spiral bevel gears having normal module about mn=10 mm (Dp~2.5). Power around 1000 kW and speed around 1500 rpm. DIN backlash requirement? Klingelnberg backlash requirement? If possible could you please give your reference source as I want to have confidence in selection.

See AGMA 2005-D03 Design Manual for Bevel Gears, Table 8 page 25. For transverse module 2.5 to 3 the minimum backlash is 0.1 mm for AGMA accuracy no. 4 to 9 and 0.08 mm for AGMA accuracy no. 10 to 13.

thank-you kindly for the above responses - however, I have AGMA and ISO requirements, what I am interested in is DIN or Klingelnberg backlash recommendations......

in reply to gear cutter, mean normal module = between 9 and 10

Just to confirm; you are working to the Klingelnberg system, not the Gleason system, where the mean normal module is taken from half way along the tooth face and not at the outside diameter at the heal end?

yes the module I have given is halfway along the tooth face, if necessary I can give you the outer normal module which is in the 8-9 range

Does anyone know the number of the DIN standard (or other German standard) which gives the recommended backlash for spiral bevel gears?
