Hello,

I have designed a 13Key Button gang, similar to the buttons on phones. My issue is I need to show a Japanese company where the cutoffs are on the sidewalls for the cosmetic requirements. If you have ever worked with a Japanese company they need everything spelled out perfect. I want to color the button tops and 4.0mm down each side wall RED. My problem is I can only color the complete sidewall and not just 4.0mm down. I have tried to split a surface but I can’t color the split surface (quilt). Is there an easy way to color a certain portion of a model?

Thanks in advance,
John

Hi John,

I worked with japanese people and I know they are almost perfect. I don't know if my solution is the best, but try this (ProE 2001, but must be similar in Wildfire):

Create another part and in this part go to INSERT->SHARE DATA->COPY GEOMETRY FROM OTHER MODEL and copy surfaces of your button (use SOLID SURFACES and in this way the whole geometry will be copied).

Now in your new part all you got is a closed surface. Create a plane at 4mm from the face and trim the surfaces with this plane and keep both sides. Now you can assign different colors to each surface.

There will be a direct link between the original part and this one.

Good luck,
-Hora

I had to do a similiar thing (keyboard for a calculator)

Just copy the surfaces and cut it at your 4mm line, then color the surface
