Spray balls are predominantly used in CIP (Clean In Place) applications. The only application that I have experience in is in the confectionary and dairy industry.

The Balls are fitted into tanks that normally contain product being either mixed or stored, periodically these tanks need cleaning, usually with some form of acid followed by clean water.

Because the cleaning operation is done on an automatic cycle and is normally not visually checked or verified, it is imperitive that the spray from the ball reaches all of the internal surfaces of the tank. (Not so simple as you may believe).

Testing or calibrating the ball to the vessel is to ensure complete coverage of the vessels internal surfaces.
