Hi All
Please refer to the attached image. I would like to check the spreader bar members for 50kN of lifting weight.
Please suggest and show if possible the calculation required, by resolving the forces.
Also please suggest and show what checks are required to be done for the central overlapping region.

Thanks in advance

Your free body diagram is basically correct, except the sling pulls at the center of the beam, not the top.

Make this revision, and you should be good to continue with your calculations.

Stateside, the primary reference for this is ASME BTH-1 "Design of Below-the-Hook Lifting Devices". It's a companion document to ASME B30.20. It has nearly all the failure checks you could ever want.

Please note that is a "v" (as in Violin) not a "y".
